IBADAN BUTCHERS VS POLICE, FIVE DEAD

Five persons were said to have been killed in Ibadan, Oyo State, during a clash between butchers at the Bodija International Market and police on Thursday.
Goods said to worth millions of naira was reportedly destroyed in the clash.
Some butchers, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, alleged that five people were killed by the police in the clash.
“We were shot by the police while trying to protect our business. They wanted to force us out of the market which is not fair. We were peaceful but they shot at us,” one of the butchers said.
The state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Odude, however, said two people died in the clash.
It was gathered that the fight was as a result of the order issued by the Oyo State Government to the butchers to relocate to a modern abattoir in Amosun Village, in the Akinyele area of Ibadan.
The butchers had refused to vacate the Bodija abattoir, which the state government described as illegal. On Tuesday, the butchers staged a protest at the state secretariat over the demolition of the Bodija abattoir by the state government.
The government had said it decided to relocate the abattoir in order to curb the unhealthy process of slaughtering of animals.

On Wednesday, the government stated that a task force has been constituted to enforce the butchers' relocation to the central abattoir.
In a move to resist the order, the butchers gathered early on Thursday and confronted the security forces. Some of the butchers accused their leaders of taking gratification from the government to enforce the order.
Gunshots were heard during the clash at the abattoir section of the Bodija market as traders locked their shops and fled the market for fear of being caught in the crossfire.
In a bid to arrest the situation, the state government announced that the market had been shut on Thursday.
Our correspondent observed that a police station at the market was attacked while vehicles parked at the station were vandalized. It was alleged that two people were shot and killed for attempting to burn the police station.
Speaking at the scene of the clash, Odude said, “We understand that at least two people were gunned down and there was an attempt to attack this police station and they quickly mobilized and we are salvaging the situation. The only thing I can tell you is that this morning there was supposed to be an arrest of those people who are selling by the roadside and in the process, there was a confrontation.”
The Secretary of the butchers union in the state, Alhaji Lateef Olagoke, who represented the chairman, Pa Lasisi Alagufon, at a press conference in the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, said he regretted the clash and the loss of lives and property in the market.

54 VEHICLES BURNT, NINE DEAD IN LAGOS TANKER EXPLOSION

Tragedy struck on Thursday at the Otedola Bridge, Lagos, after a petrol-laden tanker crashed and exploded.
No fewer than 54 cars and commercial vehicles driving behind the tanker on the road were said to have been gutted by fire, during which nine people were reportedly killed.

Emergency management workers were said to have been mobilized to the scene to rescue commuters trapped in the accident.
An eyewitness, Nkechi Obiageli, said the accident occurred around 5pm.
She said, “I was in a commercial bus heading towards the Mowe area of Ogun State. The bus was beside the tanker.
“There was traffic and when it cleared a little, the bus driver maneuvered his way to the front. We were about a few vehicles away from the tanker when we heard the sound of an explosion.

“The fuel from the tanker spilled on the expressway and all the vehicles at its back went up in flames. People ran for dear life. There was confusion everywhere.”
A bus driver, Sunday Esene, said his vehicle was burnt in the accident.
He said, “I had just dropped off my passengers at Berger bus stop and turned to buy fuel. I was on my way back when I saw the tanker. All of a sudden, it tumbled and hit the median. As soon as I realized that fuel was spilling out of the tanker, I abandoned my bus and jumped to the other side of the road. A few seconds later, the tanker exploded. I am sure over 50 vehicles got burnt with many lives lost.”
A motorist, Aderibigbe Oluwafemi, said he escaped death by a whisker as the tanker was in front of his vehicle.
He said, “We were in traffic.  When the traffic eased a little, I noticed that the tanker in my front did not move. The next thing I saw was that the tanker started moving backward and it fell. Immediately it fell, I opened my door, removed my key, phone and jumped to the other side of the road. My car got burnt, but I am happy to be alive.”
Report says that the rescue effort, which was coordinated by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, also involved officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, Lagos State Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos State Ambulance Service, State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit, Rapid Response Squad, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,  and the police, among others.

The General Manager, LASEMA, Adeshina Tiamiyu, said firefighters had put out the fire. He added that some motorists were killed while attempting to run away from the scene of the fire.
He said, “The accident happened around 5.25pm and involved a tanker loaded with petrol.  The tanker fell and spilled its content, causing a fire which burnt 54 vehicles. The vehicles, which were of different models, were trapped behind the truck.
“Some motorists, who turned to run away, crashed into other vehicles. Some jumped out and others fell into the gutter in the course of running away. We found dead bodies on the ground and in the gutter. Some of the people who died in the gutter had probably been caught by the fire and jumped into the gutter to put it out.

KIZZ DANIEL NEW NAME ALSO BELONG TO G-WORLDWIDE.

The Management of G-Worldwide Entertainment wishes to inform the general public that the matter of G-Worldwide Entertainment Ltd v Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe before the Federal High Court, Lagos Division, is still ongoing contrary to the fake news being peddled by the artiste and his advisers to mislead the public. Following several requests and enquiries by Nigerian and foreign online media and entertainment outfits about the status of the matter, it has become needful to notify the public of the current state of facts.

The suit at the Federal High Court last came up on 16th May 2018 whereupon our lawyers informed the Judge of a pending application for status quo to further restrain the rebellious acts of the artiste in view of the recent release of previously unreleased songs from the Evolution album, as well as the continued use of the name Kiss Daniel without our approval. The Judge emphatically told the Kiss’ lawyers to explore a settlement of the dispute as he does not believe the matter is one which should go to trial and that the lawyers should report on any settlement at the next adjourned date, 26th June 2018. We are unaware at the time of this release that the lawyers to Kiss have submitted any proposal with terms of settlement to our legal team.

It also interesting to inform the public that the Court was informed about the artiste’s release of the new song titled 4 Dayz, and For you a collaborated with WizKid , which are songs from the Evolution album, the ownership of which forms the subject matter of the suit at Federal High Court. We therefore need to let the public know that these releases demonstrate that the artiste is on a trip to put the credibility of other artistes whom he collaborates with in question.

We are also aware that the artiste has released the video of 4 Days, done a collaboration with Sheyi Shay titled Surrender, and another song Me ke with Omawunmi by changing his name from ‘’Kiss Daniel’’ to ‘‘Kizz Daniel’’. Let the whole world also take note that G-Worldwide is also the owner of the name ‘‘Kizz Daniel’’ (see acceptance and acknowledgement documents from the Ministry of Trade & Investment).

All digital platforms have been put on notice for take down of infringing materials where the name Kizz Daniel is in use, and we have responded to foreign and local media outfits on this issue following calls for clarification. We also wish to formally inform the public that the artiste’s use of the names Kiss Daniel and Kizz Daniel amount to breach of the company’s intellectual property rights. The company further advises the general public and other artistes to desist from engaging the artiste in respect of the names and contact the company’s management to confirm any information or proposal from the artist or his advisers which we believe are calculated to deceive.

We shall also not hesitate to take appropriate legal action to obtain judicial redress where necessary for such infringements.

Thank you.
